Want Sonic PC games released on GOG.com? Vote!

If you have never used GOG.com (aka Good Old Games) than you are missing out. The service is a retro store of PC games, most of these older games don’t work on Windows 7, so the team tinkers around to get them running. Games are reasonably priced and have zero DRM. Zero DRM means you can download and install it on as many PCs as you want. No limit. You can install it in all of your friend’s computers and force them to play Sonic games all day.

GOG.com has a ‘wishlist’ section where users cast a vote for games they would love to have on the service. Luckily for SEGA, the wishlist is packing quite a few Sonic titles…

Phantasy Star Online 2 PC character creator demo out now, download here

[Above character created by forum member CrazyTails, shout out!]

Sadly the demo is in Japanese, but the guys at bumped have made a mini-guide walking you through it. There is also a bench mark, but what do the scores mean?

  •  Less than 2000: Please adjust your game settings because the processing load is quite heavy.
  •  2000 through 5000: The game runs fine at the setting, if you have room, you can adjust some settings.
  •  5001+: The game works wonderfully at this setting.

So where can you download it? Right here [466mb].

If you want to share your characters you can do it on our forum topic or you can post them here in the comments.

Aliens: Colonial Marines on Wii U “has much more to offer”

Seems that Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford is going to pimp the Wii U version of their long awaited shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines. Pitchford told Vox Games that the Alien shooter will take advantage of the system’s ‘innovative’ tablet controller.

“The Wii U version has so much more to offer. No other platform can do what the Wii U can do. If you love [Xbox] 360 games, you are not used to being in a world where you have this new interface. But once you get used to that, you imagine the possibilities. There are some opportunities that are just not possible on any platform that does not have that device. I don’t want to give spoilers away on some of the things we are thinking of or thing we have actually implemented already, but there are a lot of cool opportunities with that device that are going to make a very unique and compelling experience on that platform,”  – Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Studios

What do I think about this? I think it is a bit of nonsense. Don’t get me wrong, the Wii U might be a good system, but selling me the same game from the Playstation 3/Xbox 360/PC on a Nintendo console with a new ‘second screen’ on my hands isn’t innovative. How is this better for me? Not only that, the game is coming this autumn to PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The Wii U version is set to come out sometime ‘by the end of the year.

Fan game: Sonic 2 HD gets alpha demo released

Sonic 2 HD fan project has now released an alpha version of their demo. Sonic 2 HD has been in the works for 3 and a half years. Since this is an alpha demo, you will be limited in what stages you can play. Right now only Emerald Hill Zone. Also since its alpha, it’s not expected to be perfect. I have to say, it’s impressive work being done by the team.

So you are asking where you can download it? Right here. The demo only supports Windows XP – Windows 7. Sorry Mac and Linux fans. The demo clocks in at 85.36 MB.

Phantasy Star Online 2 – New Lobby, Mags and Weapons

Check out this new video presentation from the Dengeki Festival.
In it Sakai-san demonstrates lots of great new additions to the PSO2 formula, including the return of some pretty cool Mags!

I cannot wait to get my paws on this game, I’ve been waiting for a true sequal to PSO for a decade now, this looks like it’ll be the one!

Toejam and Earl invade Steam with the funk

Fan favorite Genesis games Toejam and Earl and  Toejam and Earl in Panic on Funkotron are now available to download on Steam. These games were actually on Steam before but were taken down, most likely due to copyright issues. The issue first cropped up serval years ago when SEGA had a poll asking fans what Genesis games they wanted released on XBLA. Toejam and Earl took home the trophy but the creator and copyright owner wasn’t so happy to hear about these plans.

Maybe with this release SEGA and Toejam and Earl creator Greg Johnson have settled their dispute. Who knows, we might be seeing more of Toejam and Earl, maybe a guest spot in the next SEGA All-Stars game?

SEGA inks digital distribution deal with Origin

If you guys didn’t know, Origin is EA’s PC digital download platform. There has been a lot of bickering over it, people saying they where refused access to their games for quoting someone on a forum that cursed and other such stories. I don’t use the service myself, I like to stick to Steam.

“By partnering with publishers like SEGA, we’re able to bring even more of the industry’s best games to players on Origin,” commented EA exec Craig Rechenmacher. “With 11 million registered users around the world, Origin is fast becoming the destination for consumers looking for fresh new content to play with their friends.”

The first game released by SEGA on the new service is going to be Total War: Shogun 2 – Fall of the Samurai. You can even pre-order it now if you want.  SEGA isn’t the only publisher to be announcing their allegiance to EA’s digital service, Rebellion and Kalypso Media Digital also joined the roster.

SEGA has no plans on releasing another Sonic 4 episode title

According to DigitalSpy, SEGA has told them that they are not planning to release any more episodes to the Sonic 4 franchise. Seems that it might end with Sonic 4: Episode 2. Who said a bold statement like that? Who else besides the one and only Takashi Iizuka.

“We are looking forward to hearing the feedback from the users for Episode 2, but we are currently not planning to release another episode. We just want to see how the users accept this episode.” –  Takashi Iizuka, Producer.

Is it good that SEGA is ending the Sonic 4 episodes or do you want a 3rd episode added with Knuckles?

80% of Jet Set Radio’s soundtrack is intact, says SEGA [Update]

This according to Game Informer Magazine, who recently got some hands-on time with the upcoming digital re-release. They report that SEGA has retained 80% of the original’s soundtrack, and that this HD update will also feature camera controls mapped to the 2nd analog stick, something which, as Dreamcast fans will remember, wasn’t possible with that console’s controller. Region specific added levels will also make it to the digital version, all running at 60 fps.

My thoughts? 80% is unquestionably a majority of the soundtrack, though I’m personally awaiting a list of exactly what was included before getting too excited. I’ll go out on a limb here and assume that the tracks licensed for the North American and European releases aren’t going to make it this time around, but whether or not that’s the extent of the cuts remains to be seen.

Jet Set Radio will be releasing on XBLA, PSN, and PC sometime this year.

[Update] Joystiq confirms that Hideki Naganuma’s music will stay intact. Licensed music that has been confirmed to stay in the soundtrack include “Magical Girl” by Guitar Vadar and “Funky Radio” by B.B. Rights. [/Update]

First screenshots of Hell Yeah! get released

SEGA has posted up screenshots of Hell Yeah!, a game by Arkedo. You’re probably thinking to yourself that the name Hell Yeah! is just to cover up how terrible the game is going to be, but to be honest it is looking rather solid. Plus if you’re a vegetarian you will really appreciate all the meat on screen.

The game puts you in the shoes of Ash, the rabbit king of hell. Sadly someone thought putting up a private photo of you would be funny. I guess rabbits have no sense of humor because now you have to get the bastard and take him down in this action-platformer.
