New Yakuza 0 patch: Poker crash fixed and obnoxious copyright block nixed

yakuza 0 patch

Gamers will discover a 334.9 MB patch ready to download for Yakuza 0 today. I know I was surprised, as the free DLC campaign had ended earlier this month, so I wasn’t expecting anything.

It turns out, this new 1.05 patch focuses on fixing some issues with the game.

Since the game’s launch, players have encountered a game crashing error when playing Poker. This has now been resolved.

In addition, some audio bugs and the name of a DLC costume has been adjusted.

Players who used the PS4’s native screenshot or video recording features for the game discovered an obnoxiously giant black block with copyright text inside of it. This has now been adjusted to be more “discrete.” Which is a bit of an understatement! The copyright notice is now just text with a slight stroke effect… as it probably should have been from the beginning.

SEGA and NIS America team up to distribute Ys VIII, Disgaea 5 Complete & more

NISAMERICASEGATEAMDuring the NIS America streaming event earlier today, the company announced that it was teaming up with SEGA/Atlus to distribute a multitude of games throughout North America. This doesn’t mean that SEGA/Atlus is publishing them, NIS America is still the publisher on the box but SEGA is the distributor. What does that mean? I have no clue. Is this SEGA and NIS America team up to make it easier to distribute these titles to more mainstream shops?

SEGA is listed as distributing the following titles part of their SEGA and NIS America team up:

That’s quite the number of titles. What are your thoughts on SEGA and NIS America team up? I personally love it, I have always wanted SEGA to push more Japanese skewed titles over here and this is a good start. With SEGA already buying Atlus, would you guys freak out of they also picked up NIS America?

Phantasy Star Online 2 gets new Japanese ad showing off new updates

While we never got Phantasy Star Online 2 in the west, it doesn’t mean that the game is dead in Japan. At least, not according to SEGA who are still pumping money into new content and this new television ad above. Its crazy, especially since we are coming up on the Phantasy Star online 2‘s fifth year anniversary (this July).

The commercial features high pitched, dead eye starring Japanese girls and quick cuts that show what new users can expect in the latest Phantasy Star Online 2 update. From what I gather they show off new outfits, combat and even casino games. If you want to comment with the mandatory ‘SEGA bring this game to the west’, you can do so below. If you want my take on the whole thing, you can read my article about how Phantasy Star Online 2 not coming west is a bad sign for SEGA. You can also just play on the Japanese server with a fan created English patch…

Amazon says Sonic Mania coming out April 25, 2017

SonicManiaApril25SEGA hasn’t given a solid release date for Sonic Mania, outside that its set to come out this spring, but it seems that Amazon might have leaked the release date a tad earlier. According to their Sonic Mania product page, the game is set to release on April 25, 2017. Is that true? Who knows, Amazon has been known as being funky with their release dates. For example, the product pages for the PC and Nintendo Switch say its coming out May 31, 2017.

Honestly though, Sonic Mania coming out on April 25, 2017 seems to make sense, but I wouldn’t hold my breath until its officially announced. Thanks to Ghast06 on Twitter for the heads up. What is your opinion on the date change, you think Sonic Mania makes it to store shelves on April 25?

Valkyria Revolution debuts as worst selling entry in franchise history

Valkyria-Azure-Revolution-Tokyo-Game-Show-2016-TrailerValkyria Revolution debuts as worst selling entry in franchise history and that isn’t clickbait. Valkyria Revolution (Valkyria: Azure Revolution)  moved 38,197 units on PlayStation 4 and only 18,219 on the PlayStation Vita. That means that combined, it did a total of 56,416 units. Even combined, its still the lowest debuting title in Valkyria franchise’s history:

  • Valkyria Chronicles – 77,698
  • Valkyria Chronicles II – 76,088
  • Valkyria Chronicles III – 102,779

The game got beaten in sales by other debuting games like Gravity Rush 2 (74,361) and Yoshi’s Woolly World (39,555) which both debuted with less sales than any past Valkyria Chronicles titles as well. Other factors we can look into as to why Valkyria Revolution debuts as worst selling entry in franchise history is the reception. We did a preview for the game and it just didn’t seem like the right execution for what the team was trying to do. Famitsu still managed to give the full game a rating of 8/9/8/7 [32/40], which is rather high.

It is not looking good for the Valkyria franchise with this being the lowest selling new release in the franchise’s history and Valkyria Chronicles remake only selling 24,156 units on its debut week. While the team behind Valkyria Revolution have been teasing about the possibilities of a new full fledged Valkyria Chronicles title, I don’t think SEGA would be as keen considering how these past two releases have sold (at least in Japan). I myself have mix feelings on how this title will do in the West and feel that adding a Xbox One version and not a PC version was a mistake. Considering that the PC version of Valkyria Chronicles has sold over 900,000 units.

Western release of Yakuza 0 rewards players with Ryu Ga Gotoku Ishin save file

Yakuza0Items

Those who have purchased Yakuza 0 may find a prize waiting for them upon boot up. Like previous games in the series, Yakuza 0 gives players items if it can find Yakuza series system data on the Playstation 4. As I’ve imported Ryu Ga Gotoku Ishin, it seems that did the trick in giving me gear to be used by Kiryu or Majima. As it is still early in the game I’ve yet to see what Majima’s Mad Dog Gloves do, but Kiryu’s Dragon God Amulet is described as “filling up your energy reserves when you’re close to death”, which should be handy for players!

[Updated] Yakuza 0 releases today to the Playstation 4 in the Americas and Europe

2017 is a big year for SEGA games, as evidenced by the fact that Yakuza and Puyo Puyo are making their return to the west as full-fledged franchises, Valkyria Chronicles is set to return by way of a spin-off, and the company mascot Sonic the Hedgehog will debut two hotly anticipated games.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Today the prequel to the long running Yakuza franchise, Yakuza 0, releases to the Playstation 4 in the Americas and Europe. If you have not ordered the game, do so today via this handy link. Those who order now in America will receive The Business Edition, which includes a dragon branded business card holder and reproductions of business cards carried by the game’s protagonists Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima.

Now is the time to jump into the series, as Yakuza 0 takes place before the first game which has a remake due out later this year to the Playstation 4 followed by a localization of Yakuza 6 in 2018. If you have already ordered the game, share your thoughts in our dedicated forum topic or on the SEGAbits Discord chat. Still on the fence? Read or watch our review of the game!

Following the announcement that Puyo Puyo Tetris is coming to the Americas and Europe to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, we now have pre-order listings to share! Puyo Puyo Tetris can now be pre-ordered for $29.99 on the PlayStation 4 and for $39.99 on the Nintendo Switch. Amazon Prime members get 20% off, making both a very good deal.

It has been noted by SEGA staffers that should Puyo Puyo Tetris sell well, Puyo Puyo Chronicles for Nintendo 3DS could follow.

Puyo Puyo Tetris coming to Nintendo Switch and PS4, game releasing west

Puyo Puyo Tetris Switch screenshot

From the Nintendo Switch Presentation, different titles were shown off for the upcoming system, including Super Mario Odyssey, Arms, Splatoon 2, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. However in the middle of a montage highlighting different titles, Puyo Puyo Tetris was briefly shown as among the titles. Soon enough, SEGA themselves would confirm the game is indeed coming to Switch, titled Puyo Puyo Tetris S. It’s also implied that the game is getting a localization based on it’s presence in the presentation, which would tie to a previous report about Puyo Puyo Tetris trophies appearing in English on PSN.

[UPDATE] It is now officially confirmed Puyo Puyo Tetris is going to be localized for the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

[UPDATE 2] We have a trailer! Check it out after the break!

The Nintendo Switch itself is launching on March 3rd, 2017 for the retail price of $299.99.

English PuyoPuyoTetris trophies discovered for PlayStation 4

Tetris-vs-Puyo-PuyoThe PSN, Xbox Live and Steam trophy/achievement tracking site exophase updated to include English PuyoPuyoTetris trophies, which is strange considering the game hasn’t been announced for a western release. PuyoPuyoTetris (ぷよぷよテトリス Puyopuyo Tetorisu) was a Sonic Team and SEGA developed puzzle game that first hit Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 3 in Japan way back in February 2014, then later in December it hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The English PuyoPuyoTetris trophies will include a total of 43 to unlock, which has a platinum if you complete all the trophies. Are they hard? It seems pretty typical like popping 10,000 Puyos, 100% the adventure mode and winning a certain number of matches in the game’s various modes. PuyoPuyoTetris was really well received in Japan, Famitsu gave the game a 9/9/9/8. It would seem that if SEGA of America wants to continue to bring high rated content from Japan over to localize, then PuyoPuyoTetris would be a no-brainer. Though, the site is missing PlayStation Vita trophies for the game, which seems to be a trend with most publishers (ignoring that system outside of Japan).

Check out the English PuyoPuyoTetris trophies here.

Having English PuyoPuyoTetris trophies hitting a website doesn’t mean that its coming West. I guess right now we sit tight and see what SEGA has to say about all this. Maybe SEGA reached a agreement for a Western release with The Tetris Company, seems they love to go to court over the franchise.

SEGA confirms Valkyria Chronicles series still alive

Valkyria-1If you guys didn’t know, Valkyria Revolution is the next game in the ‘Valkyria‘ series of titles, but what about the original Valkyria Chronicles SRPG games? Is the Valkyria Chronicles series still alive? In an interview with PlayStation Blog Japan, Valkyria Revolution director Takeshi Ozawa and Producer Youichi Shinmosato have confirmed that Valkyria Chronicles is still on-going.

If you didn’t know Valkyria Revolution is a side game, set in a totally different universe from the main Valkyria Chronicles. Ozawa compared it to Shin Megami Tensei and the Persona series where they share common theme and mechanics but the characters and story are very different. Could this mean that Valkyria Chronicles and Valkyria Revolution will be SEGA’s big RPG series going forward?

Ozawa also said he always thinks about how they will approach the next installment of Valkyria Chronicles, especially with all the power in current gen consoles. So what do you think? Is Valkyria Chronicles series still alive? Are you excited for Valkyria Revolution?
