Update: After the break, another image of Sonic and the gang as they’ll appear in Sonic Boom the Game, which you can learn more about in this news post.

Update 2: Check out the TV show trailer for Sonic Boom after the break!

It’s been a long time coming, but the new Sonic Boom designs for Sonic and his friends have finally been revealed! At the moment we only have photos of Sonic and Knuckles, but according to Sonic Stadium Tails now has a tool belt.

Sonic Boom is also going to be much larger in scope then initially thought, as it will be more than just a television show. It will also be a toy line from Tomy and a new video game, which will be released on both console and mobile platforms.

Whether or not this is a permanent and franchise wide redesign of the character or something restricted to everything Sonic Boom related is currently unknown, but this is easily the most drastic official redesign of any sort that the franchise has seen to date.

We’ll keep you updated with more news as it happens.

Big Sonic Event in New York later today

Looks like Machinima let the cat out of the bag early and accidentally posted an invitation poster on one of their youtube videos (although I’m not under embargo, I’m not showing it out of respect for Sega). The event promises “2014 will mark a renaissance for Sonic the Hedgehog” and shows a poster of the silhouetted images from the Sonic Boom teaser. It’s also states that Sega will make new announcements and plans for the Sonic brand. From what was shown on the poster, we can already guess it has to deal with Sonic Boom but will new game announcements be involved as well? Also, the use of the word “renaissance” has me a little worried. They wouldn’t be going all out if this wasn’t something really Big.

The presentation will start at 12:30EST and they’ll be interviews after at 1:20.

Sonic to return to television in the CG animated comedy series “Sonic Boom” – due out Fall 2014

boom

SEGA dropped a bombshell on the Sonic community today, announcing Sonic’s return to television with a CG animated comedy series tentatively titled Sonic Boom.

Sonic the Hedgehog, the iconic video game character who has brought his trademark speed and attitude to four TV series and more than 70 video games, is returning to television in his first-ever CG animated series in the fall 2014. The action packed comedy series aimed at children 6-11 will debut first on Cartoon Network in the U.S. and on CANAL J and GULLI in France, with a global rollout to follow. The initial order of 52 eleven-minute episodes is co-produced by SEGA of America Inc. and Genao Productions.

Update: Sonic Dancing (dirty?) at Sonic Boom

Warning: the first 25 seconds are so is NSFW.

Here is a video from Sonic Boom. The music at first is quite funny. Then when SEGA realizes what’s being played it’s quickly switched, but it’s an awesome video either way. Apparently the video has been getting taken down with DMCA claims, could be SEGA or the licensed music thats being played, so watch it while you can!

Also, I don’t know the names of the songs being played, but if anyone would tell me in the comments that would be great!

Update: here is a perspective from inside the crowd,

Dates for Sonic Boom and Summer of Sonic announced

Hedgehog Day news continues!

Sonic fans will get a double dose of events this year as both dates for Summer of Sonic and Sonic Boom have been announced. Summer of Sonic will take place in London (no EXACT location yet) on July 7 while Sonic Boom will be held in San Diego at the House of Blues on July 13th during the San Diego Comic Con. That pretty much guarantees that I’ll be there. With the dates so close together, it’s hard to determine what Sonic talent will show up where. But I’d bet a shiny nickel that at the very least, the Archie comic talent will be at Sonic Boom.

SEGA confirms Sonic Generations demo

You know you all want to play Sonic Generations and now it’s been confirmed by Takashi Iizuka at the Sonic Boom fan event that that there will be a demo.

I think we all expected a demo and I assume the demo will be the Green Hill Zone stage with classic and modern gameplay. Whatever stage they choose, it will be awesome.
