Ikaruga gets ported to Android devices, dodge bullets on the go

http://youtu.be/cbmCCjDC67c
Ikaruga is probably one of my favorite shoot ’em ups during the Dreamcast era, created originally for the SEGA NAOMI board. This little bugger has seen its fair share of ports, including the Gamecube, Xbox 360 and now Android powered devices. How much are they charging for this masterpiece? $9.

So head over to the Play Store and pluck down some money and if you haven’t played it, do so please.

Aliens: Colonial Marines PC specs released

Aliens: Colonial Marines PC specs are released and they aren’t that bad, at least not in my opinion. It even supports Windows XP SP3, for those few of you who are still refusing to upgrade to Windows 7 or 8. Yes, I’m ignoring the existance of Vista. Check out the specs by hitting the jump.

My Life with SEGA – Schwarzenegger Double-Feature

Arnold takes center stage for the first time in almost a decade in this year’s The Last Stand, co-starring Johnny Knoxville of Jackass fame. Let us celebrate with two games based on two of my favorite Schwarzenegger films; The Terminator and True Lies.

Can two great films spawn two great games? We’re gonna’ find out.

SEGA Tunes: Super Hang-On’s Outride a Crisis (Arranged Version)

Compared to some of the other big SEGA racing franchises like Outrun and Daytona USA, Hang-On hasn’t really gotten all that much love in recent years. I’ve personally only played the game through Shenmue, having never even seen the arcade cabinet in real life. While I haven’t had much experience with the Hang-On franchise, that hasn’t stopped me from enjoying its soundtrack! When I was looking for new SEGA soundtracks, Hang-On was one of the first places I looked. SEGA’s arcade games always seem to have the most enjoyable and catchy tracks in SEGA library and this one did not disappoint!

Enjoy and please share your own memories of this track and the game itself below.

SEGA reveals release dates and price for The Cave

Last year, SEGA announced that they’d be teaming up with Double Fine Productions (Psychonauts) and Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert to publish their latest digital title, The Cave. It’s a platformer with a large cast of characters, one that looks to meld a quirky sense of humor with gorgeously dark art direction. Coming from these developers, it’s definitely one to keep an eye on.

Release dates and prices below;

Playstation Network: January 22nd ($14.99)
Wii U eShop: January 22nd ($14.99)
Xbox LIVE Arcade: January 23rd (1200 MSP)
Steam: January 23rd ($14.99)

Keep it locked to SEGAbits for more on The Cave as it nears its release.

Owlchemy Labs: Jack Lumber “hasn’t been financially successful”

In August of 2012, SEGA announced a new publishing initiative dubbed “SEGA Alliance”. SEGA Alliance’s aim was to “focus on publishing mobile games made by independent developers” and to “provide participating developers with comprehensive marketing and production support as well as creative consultation”. The first of these SEGA Alliance titles was Owlchemy Labs Jack Lumber, an iOS title in the vein of Fruit Ninja that, in my opinion, went well beyond the Fruit Ninja formula and was quite an excellent game. Unfortunately, according to Owlchemy Labs founder Alex Schwartz in an interview with Indie Static, “working with publishers has been a big experiment and so far it hasn’t been financially successful for Owlchemy.” Schwartz detailed just how much of the SEGA Alliance offerings Owlchemy Labs took advantage of, as well as talked about how much freedom indie publishers have in a SEGA Alliance deal.

SEGA Tunes: Astal’s “Let Me Try Again!” and “River of Dreams”

Astal is a severely underrated game, even by Saturn standards. Even when people talk about the great underappreciated games, discussion of Astal never really seems to come up. It’s not hard to imagine why: Astal was an unapologetically two dimensional game released in an era when games that weren’t pushing polygons or where at the very least pre-rendered were all but ignored. That’s a crying shame, because Astal is not only a beautiful and well-crafted platformer, but also plays host to an awesome soundtrack.

The Japanese vocalized opening posted above was only the tip of the iceberg. Astal is a game loaded with spectacular tunes, which we will be featuring more of later in the year. Perhaps during a certain themed month of a certain console? Who knows!

Check below the fold for another awesome track from the game, “River of Dreams”.

Platinum Games shows off it’s 2013 lineup

Today, Platinum Games showed off their 2013 line up in a trailer also highlighting their best games of the past. Yea, yea. Only a few of these games are Sega related and even then, published by Nintendo, but I’ve loved Platinum Games ever since their move to Sega. Even if they seem to be moving away from them now. Just look at all that onscreen action! If you are a fan of high intensity action games, pick up Vanquish, pick up Bayonetta and by all means, pick up Anarchy Reigns which is out today for $29.99! Sega affiliated or no, Platinum games is awesome!
