Sonic Generations: Sonic Team building on lessons learnt

Sonic Generation is looking to celebrate the 20th anniversary of SEGA’s blue mascot in style. The game is set to feature a number of throwbacks, references, past levels and a complete mishmash of the history of the entire series as publisher SEGA looks to restore the quality that was once synopsis with the series. I spent an extensive time playing the levels available for the Sonic Generations demo and got to play as both classic and modern Sonic, click after the break to find out how the title fared!

Anarchy Reigns: The new Power Stone for parties

Platinum Games has enjoyed a beneficial relationship publisher and that is set to continue with their latest title, Anarchy Reigns. The title is set to be a number of new Intellectual Properties that publisher SEGA is set to be releasing next year and is a sort of spiritual sequel of Platinum Game’s first title, MadWorld. Although not as much as one would expect, there is still plenty that separate the titles, in particular is Anarchy Reigns heavy focus on multiplayer gaming and perhaps become to SEGA what Power Stone was for Capcom. Read on after the break to find out what I thought of the game at the recent Eurogamer Expo.

The House of the Dead: Overkill Preview at Eurogamer Expo

The House of the Dead is one of SEGA’s longest running IP at the moment of writing this preview and the publisher is looking to continue the series with a port of its successful Wii title The House of the Dead: Overkill this time for the Playstation 3. Being developed by Headstrong Games, SEGA had a short demo available for play at the Eurogamer Expo featuring the second level of the game Ballistic Trauma, click the break to find out how the game fared when I got to have a playthrough!

Sonic Generations 3DS: Mushroom Hill in Action

NLifeNintendoMag gives us our first peek at Mushroom Hill in Sonic Generations for 3DS. All the badniks and traps from the original version are included. In fact, I believe it’s very close to the exact same level design too. Personally, I’m still not feeling it for the classic gameplay in 3DS, but we’ll see how things improve as we move closer to release. I’m really excited to see some modern video as I really enjoyed modern gameplay of GHZ back at E3.

Sonic Generations 3DS is currently scheduled for a late fall release.

Sonic Generations interview with Aaron Webber

UPDATE: Extra comment at the end of the interview.

Sega had a very strong presence at the San Diego Comic Con this year. Not only did they have a Sega Arcade down in the Gaslamp Quarter, but on the floor they had Captain America at the Marvel booth and two demo stations of Sonic Generations at the Archie Comics booth. Surprisingly (or maybe not), there was no 3DS Generations demo anywhere to be found.

At one of the demo stations, I found Sonic brand manager Aaron Webber. Trust me when I say there’s no more likable fella working at Sega. Look at him. He’s just so gosh darn huggable ya wanna stuff him in your Warner Bros Comic Con bag and take him home with “AHEM!” Anyway, as he manned the station, many people were checking out the demo. Mostly the modern version. In fact, one fan kept coming back every day and managed to beat Aaron’s record on modern by one second! When he had some time, we went to the back of the Archie booth and set up an interview. (I wanted to snuggle, but he refused. XD Kidding, kidding.)

Sega @ Comic Con Photo Gallery

Ain’t no party like a Sega party cuz the Sega party don’t stop!

Sega was out at full force this year. Heavily promoting their upcoming games. Especially Sonic Generations and Captain America. Whether it was the Sega Arcade, the Captain America: Super Soldier ads plastered all over or the beautiful Sega babes, Sega was promoting themselves in a way I haven’t seen since the Dreamcast days. I was lucky enough to have the Sega Arcade just two doors down from my hotel and spent a good amount of time there before heading home. I’ll have hands on reports of Aliens DS (yes Nux, you were right), Renegade Ops and HOTD Overkill later in the week, but for now………..the pics! (56K’ers beware.)

Segabits@E3 and Sonic Boom in Pictures!

Well, it took awhile, but I finally figured out how to put in these large pictures in without crashing the whole dang site and getting my sorry butt in trouble. Ends up I have a program that will let me resize pictures on my hard drive so FINALLY I can put up my E3 pics for all to enjoy. We’ve got the Sega booth and Sonic Boom so be sure to check out the pics by clicking the link. 56k’ers need not apply.

E3: Binary Domain Preview and Q&A

At E3, we were shown an exclusive demo of Binary Domain, an action packed third person shooter done by the same team behind Yakuza. The story is a cross-breed between “The Terminator” and I Robot. The year is 2080. The setting is Tokyo. A company has developed intelligent robots for the sake of manual labor. However, an incident occurs when someone has been producing robots that look like humans and some robots are given an ego. This is a breach of international law. An American company called Burgen corporation believes the Amita corporation is doing it. You pay as Dan Marshall, a member of the IRTA which regulates robotics internationally. You are sent into Japan to find the person responsible. However, Japan has gone back to its feudal days and has sealed itself off from foreign intervention, so you will have to infiltrate your way in and fight off large groups of robots who want you dead for invading.

E3: Sonic Generations Q&A With Takashi Iizuka

(NOTE: Because this is a Q&A with questions taken from staff from both Sonic Stadium and Segabits, this article will be posted on both sites simultaneously.)

On the Tuesday afternoon of E3, Alex (nuckles87) and I got the privilege of seeing the first new footage of City Escape from Sonic Generations played by Takashi Iizuka himself. Seeing little classic Sonic going through the famous SA2 level was a thrill. We saw as the large GUN truck made every attempt possible to run down the roly-poly hedgehog as two new remixes of “Escape from the City” played through both levels. As he played through he told some interesting tidbits, including the fact that outside of Green Hill zone, all stages on the 3DS will be different from the HD versions and will have levels based on the portable versions of Sonic’s games. Also, voice overs will be done for all nationalities. Not just Japanese and English. He quit the last level as the GUN truck with it’s giant sawblades ran over modern Sonic as he ran out of boost. Here, our Q&A commenced.

More Sonic Boom Details Arrive. CUPCAKES!

Sega of America has announced details on their latest blog about the Sonic Boom event. The event will include prizes such as T-Shirts and hats. Also, demos of Sonic Generations will be on hand. Folks who want to get in without a ticket will have to wait until others leave in order for a chance to get in. That means those of you without a pass may still have a chance to get in. And the best news of all………..

Conduit 2 Hands on Preview

Note: This preview was actually written after PAX 2010, not the recent Conduit 2 community event. As a result, the build I played would now be considered outdated. The only part of the preview this really effects is my opinion on the  frame rate, but nevertheless keep this mind. I actually have a few articles from PAX that never went up. You’ll be seeing the other article soon.

The original Conduit garnered a lot of press for being the first serious attempt at a Wii first person shooter. At the end of the day, despite all the hype surrounding it, The Conduit garnered only a good review score average. The game was criticized for being a very generic corridor shooter, with not much beyond typical running and gunning. With Conduit 2, High Voltage Software has set its sights on correcting all of the flaws of the original.

More after the break.

Sega attending ‘GAMEfest’

Videogame retail store ‘GAME’ are holding an event in Madrid this year, known as GAMEfest with hopes that one day it will be as big as Tokyo Game Show, E3 and GamesCom. (Good luck!)

Sega Europe will be attending bringing their upcoming releases to the event. Although no list of games has been announced I’ll bet Vanquish, Sonic Colours and Sonic 4 will be there amongst others. *Crosses fingers for a new Shogun 2 Total War demonstrations!*

If you’re interested in attending, the event is being held from October 8th to the 10th in the exhibition site Recinto Ferial Juan Carlos I de Madrid. Doors will be open from 10am to 8pm and tickets can be bought at GAME.es for 3,00€ each, but unfortunately only Friday and Sunday tickets are still available. Saturday appears to be sold out.

So if anyone is interested in going, Sega will be at booth 17! Here is the official site with info. (In spanish.)
