SEGA-Sammy’s Finicial Report: Consumer division beats expectations, generates profit

itprintsmoneysega

It seems that SEGA-Sammy is on track. In recent earnings they continued to generate profit as a whole thanks to their amusement and pachinko slot machines, usually their consumer business loses money. Not this time, SEGA’s consumer business reported a income of 1.12 billion yen (about $11.35 million). What lead to SEGA’s sudden turn in profits?

  • During the three month period, their biggest title was Total War: Rome II, which moved 800,000 units.  Considering the fact that this report ends on September 30th, that would mean the game was on sale for less than a month!
  • According to the report their digital titles for Windows PC, mobile phones and smartphones ‘remained favorable’. Phantasy Star Online 2 saw 3 million registered accounts during August and 800,000 people downloaded the mobile game ‘Chain Chronicle‘ .

SEGA-Sammy as a company saw their operating income jump up 57.1 %, ranking in 12.4 billion yen. If you are one of the people that invested in SEGA-Sammy stock, congratulations!

Sonic Dash receives a Halloween update, battle Zazz of Sonic Lost World for a limited time

zazz

Hardlight Studio announced a surprise update to Sonic Dash this morning, adding to the game for a limited time a boss battle with Zazz of Sonic Lost World. The addition is big news for a few reasons, one being that the game now has boss battles which have been long requested by fans, the other reason being that Sonic Lost World is not even a month old and we’ve already seen the first instance of a new character from the game appearing in another Sonic title. Zazz’s boss battle appears to occur at random when hitting a spring to enter a new area. Players must first dodge stars from behind, then from ahead. Finally, Sonic and Zazz fly into the air and you must homing attack the Zeti to defeat him.

Hardlight Studio also promises a Sonic Lost World global challenge, once we learn more of what the challenge entails we’ll be sure to update this story. After the break, check out a few screens of Zazz in Sonic Dash .

Art of SEGA: House of the Dead III

ArtofSEGAhotd3

House of the Dead isn’t exactly the most beautiful game series, but it still required a substantial amount of concept art in order to determine the design of the protagonists, enemies, and game play scenarios. Below is a load of concept art, provided by our sister site Website of the Dead. As usual, we won’t be posting everything they have, so be sure to check out their database here!
Also, remember to submit something to our art contest!

PEGI ratings reveals Typing of the Dead: Overkill for PC

HouseofTheDeadOverkill2

GUTS WILL BE SPELLED thanks to the PEGI ratings site which reveals Typing of the Dead: Overkill on PC. The release date is said to be today, but other release dates on the site do not line up with the actual release dates of games. It also appears that the game will support online play: “This game allows the player to interact with other players ONLINE”.

SEGA’s twitter has recently been teasing that “GUTS WILL BE _______.” today, and given the PEGI rating it appears that those who guessed “SPELLED” were right. We’ll have more details on the game once SEGA officially reveals it. [Note: the screenshot above is from the console version of the game]

SEGA Retro Spotlight: Happy 25th anniversary to the SEGA Mega Drive

SMD

Twenty-five years ago today, SEGA released what was arguably their most beloved and popular console: the SEGA Mega Drive.

Since April 1st of this year, SEGAbits has been teamed with Sonic Retro, the internet’s best resource for all things Sonic the Hedgehog. But the folks at Sonic Retro didn’t want to limit themselves to just Sonic, and so the SEGA Retro wiki was born. SEGA Retro covers anything and everything SEGA, from hardware to games to arcade titles. Despite being less than four years old, the wiki has amassed nearly seven thousand articles and continues to grow. The SEGA Retro wiki has been just a click away from SEGAbits, by selecting “Info” from our navigation bar, but we wanted to go one step further and highlight the many excellent wiki entries in a new SEGAbits feature entitled “SEGA Retro Spotlight”.

Given the significance today has for SEGA history, we’re going to highlight SEGA Retro’s entry on the SEGA Mega Drive.

SEGA Memories: A look back at Toys ‘R’ Us’ 1996 holiday video game catalog

MondayMemoriesToyRUs
Its almost that time of season where most kids are waiting to tell their parents what modern day war shooter they want under their Christmas tree. Its also the time where older folks, like ourselves on the site, think about our previous holidays and how we used to make our parents waste hoards of cash to buy our affection. Wasn’t that great? Well this week on Monday Memories we will look at the 1996 holiday Toy ‘R’ Us video game catalog. I remember these where awesome as a kid, it was like window shopping for games in my underwear.

SEGA’s latest teaser ends up being more Samurai & Dragons

We posted a few days ago that SEGA was teasing something for the Playstation Vita. We didn’t know much outside of the platform (due to HTML code) and the phrase ‘The New Story will Begin‘. Guess what the new game was? It was a teaser for the fifth season of Samurai & Dragons and we have the trailer above.

If you have played Kingdom Conquest, that is pretty much what Samurai & Dragons is for the Playstation Vita. It seems that SEGA is trying to enter this whole free-to-play market. SEGA is set to start the new Samurai & Dragons on November 1st.
