SEGA Central at EGXrezzed – Meet Tembo

SEGA are at EGXrezzed this year showing off some of their big 2015 titles. Total War Battles: Kingdoms, Total War Arena and Total War: Attila will all be playable at this event. But that isn’t alll, so will SEGA and Game Freaks first collaboration since 1994, TEMBO THE BADASS ELEPGANT. Check out this short preview of TEMBO from SEGA Central.

If you guys didn’t know, SEGA and GameFreak’s last collaboration was Pulseman on the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive! It is good to see them team up again. I’ve heard whispers that the developer had some semi successful franchise on Nintendo’s handheld systems between SEGA’s Pulseman and now, but the name of the franchise escapes me at the moment. Had something to do with pocket sized monsters?

Classic SEGA Magazine Corner: Xbox Nation’s “Chasing the Dragon”, an inside look at Panzer Dragoon Orta

PDOheader

When SEGA announced that they were discontinuing the Dreamcast in 2001, like many SEGA fans I was in a daze. What competitor console would I buy to continue to enjoy SEGA games? How could I keep up on SEGA news with the cancellation of the fantastic Official SEGA Dreamcast Magazine? With the knowledge that certain internal development teams would be shifting focus to specific consoles, fans had to decide if they were to become a Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo owner (or all three if you were one of those spoiled kids). As a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog and Jet Set Radio, the decision was clear. I was to become an Xbox owner. SEGA told fans that Sonic would be multi-platform, despite Sonic Team’s Nintendo leanings, and that Smilebit would be releasing games to the Xbox. These were deciding factors for sure, but what really tipped me over the edge into pledging allegiance to the Xbox was Xbox Nation, the independent Xbox magazine.

Announcement: SEGAbits presents Sonic & SEGA Fan Jam 2015 website launch and donations

FanJam2015

Last November, we at SEGAbits hosted our very own gathering for all SEGA fans & gamers. The event was named Sonic & SEGA Fan Jam 2014, and was made possible with the awesome help of The Guild Hall of Savannah which provided us the venue space. As the person who spearheaded the event, it was a great experience to host a convention which celebrated SEGA’s video games ranging from classic to current releases. Attendees had a variety of games to play, SEGA fan films from talented filmmakers and animators to watch, and special guest appearances of talented Archie Comics Sonic The Hedgehog artist Tracy Yardley and Matt M. the host of Sonic The Hedgehog YouTube channel Tails Channel!

This year, we are happy to announce the launch of the Sonic & SEGA Fan Jam 2015 website, announcing the event coming this Fall. Like any sequel, we aim to make it bigger for everyone in the southern east coast area with more games, activities, and special guests from the SEGA community. In addition to the official site, we’ve worked on developing a Facebook page for the event to keep you guys up to date on news and special guest appearances. In the coming months, we will announce special guests, ticket prices, and many more details. Want to show your support by helping us with donations for the event? Be sure to click the jump for more details.

Tembo the Badass Elephant gameplay video

Want to see more of Tembo the Badass Elephant? Of course you do. IGN have uploaded eight minutes of gameplay, showcasing a city level and a forest level. In this video you can get a better look at Tembos abilities including squirting water, platforming, physics based puzzles, butt-stomping and more.

I love how colourful, vibrate and crisp the visuals are, it’s such a joy to watch in motion. There is a moment in the video at the 4:30 mark where Tembo is running, full speed over green rolling hills reminiscent of the Sonic series and I’m reminded of what made me a Sonic fan all those years ago. Badass indeed!

SEGA published SRPG Stella Glow gets first gameplay footage

A few days ago we posted that Stella Glow, an SRPG 3DS game was being published by SEGA and developed by Imageepoch. Outside of a few screenshots, we didn’t really know what the game would look like in action, until now. Above is the brand new trailer showing off some anime cutscenes and later on the first gameplay.

The in-game graphics remind me a lot of Imageepooch’s last game they created with SEGA titled 7th Dragon, more specifically the sequel called 7th Dragon 2020. The game is set to release in Japan on June 4th, no western release dates have been announced and seeing as Imageepoch’s past couple SEGA published games never made it west; I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Plenty of SEGA merchandise inbound at Comiket Special 6

cs6-title-large

Running from March 28th to the 29th in Japan this year is the Comiket Special 6 – Otaku Summit 2015,” a massive event packed with stuff for, well, ‘otaku.’ However, SEGA have announced they will be in attendance at the event, with a corporate booth to sell merchandise. And when they say “sell merchandise,” they aren’t kidding!

SEGA has shown off some of the items available for purchase at the event, a snippet of which we’ve included below. It covers a huge range of SEGA stuff; Fantasy Zone, Space Channel 5, Sakura Wars, and Virtual On all get nods, along with some obvious faces such as Sonic, and the usual console themed stuff (including a rather nice SEGA Saturn bag). Also slated to be available at the event is merchandise for the SEGA feat. Hatsune Miku Project (plus Mikudayo, the terrifying Project Mirai mascot costume that became something more) and the much-loved SEGA Hard Girls.

Review: 3D Out Run (Nintendo 3DS)

OutRunReview

Out Run / Outrun (アウトラン) is a very important game in the history of SEGA, released back in 1986 on arcades and later ported to various consoles. Out Run was a massive success for SEGA, selling over 20,000 cabinets worldwide in its year of release. Almost 30 years later, we get a brand new port on 3DS with 3D Out Run. Is this port worth your time? Well, let’s talk about that…

Sonic Talk #31: “We’re gonna need a bigger podcast”

We got a fairly large podcast going on this week with lots to discuss. Starting off with our special guest, Elizabeth Silvas who tells us a very touching tale of her near death experience and how Sonic saved her during a troubling time in her life. Next, we discuss the brand new mobile game from Sonic Team “Sonic Runners”. It looks like only I got my hands on this game, but I give my full impressions. Also, I go into the new slightly playable build of Sonic X-Treme and we find out what other Sega and Capcom properties will be involved in the new, “World’s Unite” crossover event. Last, but not least, we delve into some Sonic Boom discussion and talk about the last few episodes.

Atlus bringing Lost Dimension to Playstation 3 and Vita this Summer

Good news for Playstation 3 and especially Playstation Vita owners, you guys will get a new RPG to play and honestly it sounds pretty interesting. The game takes everything you like from RPG and adds a twist. In this game the twist is that someone in your party is a traitor, so while you and your comrades go out on missions you will have the ability to try and figure out who the traitor is. Here is the kicker, if you guess the traitor wrong, that person can turn around and betray you due to false accusations. The idea is to find out the traitor and kill them before they can cause damage to your team and in turn your mission.

Lost Dimension will be a tactical RPG that will be released this summer in both North America and Europe. Atlus has also revealed that the game will cost a mere $39.99 at launch and will be released in both digital and retail. Sadly it has also been confirmed that the game will only have English dub voices and no Japanese audio in the Western release.

The developer for the game is Lancarse who worked on the Etrian Odyssey, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey and Unchained Blades.

SEGA and Game Freak reveal Tembo The Badass Elephant for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC

SEGA just announced that the game by Game Freak they’ll be publishing is Tembo The Badass Elephant, a side scrolling action game with 17 levels in which you play as an elephant who is also a commando who has save Shell City from the evil PHANTOM Army. So really it’s what you could expect from the studio that made Pokémon. It’ll be a single player game, and while there’s no multiplayer there are leaderboards as there’s a lot of stuff you can do to get points in each level. This is the third game to come out of Game Freak doing smaller projects aside from their usual Pokémon games, with the first two being HarmoKnight and Solitiba.

The game is being directed by James Turner, who also directed HarmoKnight for the 3DS. Gamereactor had an interview with him about the game, which can be read here. It’ll be released this summer for Steam, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. As for why it’s not coming to Wii U, it’s because James only put the aforementioned platforms on the mock-up poster for the game and kinda stuck with them through development. Screenshots can be found below.

Creative Assembly is celebrating 15 Years of Total War

Human history is a bloody and violent one. Kingdoms and empires have risen and fallen at the edge of a sword. From the time we first sharpen flint we’ve been a pretty stabby lot– thank goodness for that! Total War simply couldn’t exist without it. Thanks to SEGA and Creative Assembly we can relive our ancestors violent, tyrannical and stabby ways in a fun game! Yay!

The Total War franchise is celebrating its 15 year anniversary in 2015! Total War spans 11 games, over 2000 years of historical warfare and an incredible estimated 4.8 billion battles waged in the last 15 years. To celebrate this milestone SEGA and Creative Assembly have released a trailer (see above) to reflect on their own history and give us a hint of what’s to come.

If you visit the EGX Rezzed show in London this weekend you’ll be able to play both retro and modern titles spanning 15 years of Total War history. Plus a ‘huge’ Total War prize giveaway! See you on the battlefield!

These SEGA Classic Arcade LEGO sets need your support to become reality

Classic1
Above is a proposed LEGO Idea by creator SpacySmoke and if you want these to become reality you have to support the idea (which means creating an account at LEGO website). The project has about a year left to get 10,000 SEGA fans to support it and right now its hovering a little over 600 people supporting this awesome idea.

The set that is being proposed comes with a Space Harrier, Out Run and Thunder Blade LEGO arcade replicas. But that isn’t all, it also comes with a male, female and Yu Suzuki themed LEGO persons.

Atlus bringing Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold to North America

Atlus has just announced that they will be localizing Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight and expects to release it this summer in North America exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS. What is Etrian Odyssey? Its a dungeon crawling RPG developed  (sometimes co-developed) by Atlus. The games are famous for having character designs by Yuji Himukai and music by SEGA legend Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage, Revenge of Shinobi).

The ‘Untold’ series of these games are actually remakes of the old DS games (Untold 1 was a remake of the first game, this one is the second) adding new features, graphics and much more.
